[Mozilla] Nvu 1.0 released

Today Nvu reached 1.0. Nvu is a web authoring system that was started from the Mozilla Composer code base. Nvu is a standalone application similar to the next generation applications from Mozilla such as the Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird.
Kudos to Daniel Glazman from Disruptive Innovations who is the lead developer and maintainter of Nvu. Earlier Daniel was the chief architect for the Mozilla Composer.

[General] Stylesheets Part 2

As I mentioned in my previous post, one of the pending tasks on my blog design update is to add support of switching stylesheets via javascript. Today I found the time to do just that.

Along with that I have added a cookie so that the user selected style will persist.

[General] CSS Templates...

In my attempts to beautify my blog, I have finally included support for multiple alternate stylesheets.

All the three stylesheets were originally written by Douglas Bowman from www.stopdesign.com. All I have done is to slightly tweak the designs based on personal preference.

Now one of the major tasks that remain is to allow easier switching of the stylesheets via javascript. If you are already using a browser such as Mozilla Firefox, then you can access the alternate stylesheets via the View -> Page Style menu option.

As far as allowing for persistence of user selected stylesheet is concerned, I am still debating whether to include that option or not. I personally am not in the favor of using cookies on my blog. But I may give in and include a cookie for the same.

For those of you who are not so fortunate to be using a browser that allows the user to select the stylesheet, here are the screenshots of the same.

[Musings] Humsafar...

Its a sleepy sunday evening and I am my computer listening to a very beautiful song that I like. Humsafar by Silk Route from the album Boondein. Thought I'll share the lyrics of this song...

Hum jo chale tum bhi chalo saath
Phir kya khabar ki din he ki raat

Hum jo chale tum bhi chalo saath
Phir kya khabar ki din he ki raat

Bas mai nahin rahenge jazbaat
Tum jo sanam hamare chalo saath
Hum jo chale...

Sur se saji geethon si teri yaad
Tujh bin sanam bhaye na koi baat
Kaise kaho akele chalun aaj
Tum aao sanam sune hain dil ke saaz

Kaisi bhi raahen ho kaisi dagar ho
Koi bhi rasta ho koi safar ho
Chalte rahen hum jo duur hamsafar ho
Hum jo chale...

Din yeh kahe bhaito hamare paas
Aao idhar ishara kare raat
Hum ko magar chahiye wahi shaam
Jis pe sanam likha ho tera naam

Chandni raaten ya ghirti saher ho
Chahe din ka woh koi pahar ho
Chalte rahen hum jo duur hamsafar ho

Hum jo chale tum bhi chalo saath
Phir kya khabar ki din he ki raat

Bas mai nahin rahenge jazbaat
Tum jo sanam hamare chalo saath

Galiyon mai phirta hai banjara dil ye
Tujh ko hi doongega awara dil ye
Karta hai jaane ishare kya dil ye

Galiyon mai phirta hai banjara dil ye
Tujh ko hi doongega awara dil ye
Karta hai jaane ishare kya dil ye

Galiyon mai phirta hai banjara dil ye
Tujh ko hi doongega awara dil ye
Karta hai jaane ishara kya dil ye

Galiyon mai phirta hai banjara dil ye
Tujh ko hi doongega awara dil ye
Karta hai jaane ishara kya dil ye

Hum jo chale toh tum bhi chalo saath...

[General] Internet@Home

For the past one year we have been using the Dishnet DSL broadband connection. The data rate we used to get was pretty good. The only major grouse we had with the connection, was that the cable laid between the nearest hub and my place was frequently getting cut due to uprooting of trees, poles, etc. For the past couple of months my downtime was as high as 70%.

That is when we felt that we need to change our ISP. We have now moved over to BSNL's DataOne service whose cables are laid underground. It is only the second day of using the service. So I cannot give any comments about the QoS as yet.

On an unrelated note, we had dinner yesterday at Karavalli. The food there was excellent and so was the ambience. Everbody really liked the place. And the food ofcourse ;-)

[General] Categories...

For a long time I have been thinking of adding categories to my blog. Some might ask that when I hardly seem to post to my blog, then why on Earth do I need to add categories. To them I would say, just for the heck of it... :-)

In other news, I have been doing some tweaking with the CSS template to make it look better at most screen resolutions. Hopefully it looks fine on most browsers. Since I use Mozilla Firefox, I verify my template only on it. Drop me a comment in case the blog doesn't look right on your browser.
